SUMMIT, NJ - Family Promise will host its annual "Fall Fling" fundraiser Friday, Nov. 4 from 7 to 11 p.m., at Canoe Brook Country Club. The Summit-based national non-profit will honor its founder, Karen Olson, who retired earlier this year. Former Summit Mayor Janet Whitman will serve as honorary chair for the event.

The program this year centers on The Power of One: the power of one person’s life to make a difference in the lives of others. The evening will feature guest speaker Candice Stewart-Fife, a former guest in the Family Promise Union County program nearly 25 years ago. She is the director of Family Promise’s newest Affiliate in Bryan County, Ga.

“I never felt that I was a victim. Or that I was powerless,” Stewart-Fife said of her time as a guest. She credits Olson as a role model, prompting her to dedicate her own life to serving others. The Bryan County Affiliate opened in October and began serving its first family—a single mother with three children.

It is no secret that Paterson is in dire need of revitalizing, restructuring, rebuilding, and, quite frankly, rebranding. As a city, we have struggled to pay our municipal debt, to reduce crime substantially, to create sustainable employment opportunities for our youth and to provide assistance for our city’s most vulnerable residents.

Today, we face an uphill ...

I'm Sorry Mr. Jackson... I Am For Real

July 8, 2018

Hello again, Paterson.

So much has changed since the last time I’ve written… as I’d hoped, Andre Sayegh is our new mayor and it seems an exciting new dawn is upon us. I think when any change comes, especially one as major as this, there is an opportunity for reflection as well as for hope. This election taught me quite a bit, seeing some of the best and worst sides of ...
