'Fearless Champion" of Education Joseph Atallo Mourned

PATERSON, N.J. - An illness that left board of education candidate Joseph T. Attallo unable to campaign in the recent election, has claimed the life of the beloved education advocate. Atallo was 62.

Former board of education member Corey Teague said "Dr. Attallo was a fearless champion for education advocacy. He held back no punches when it came to exposing political corruption and wasteful spending. He was a powerful voice and presence in the city and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and grew to appreciate his unique style".

Atallo in recent years was a professor at St. Peters University and was the last business administrator for Paterson Public schools in 1990-1991, before the state took control of the district.

Atallo passed away on December 22 at Bernert Rehabilitaion center in Paterson. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Scillieri-Arnold Funeral Home on 5th Avenue in Paterson.
