MONTCLAIR, NJ The Montclair Township Animal Shelter (MTAS) has teamed up with NBC 4 New York / WNBC and Telemundo 47 / WNJU to host Clear the Shelters – the second annual nationwide pet adoption drive today, July 23.

In an effort to find new homes for homeless pets, MTAS will waive adoption fees on animals over six months old on Saturday, July 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event will take place at Basement WRX, the custom furniture refinishing shop and gallery located at 101 Walnut Street, Montclair (across the street from the Animal Shelter building).

Basement WRX -- whose motto is “We like our furniture like we like our dogs. Rescued” -- generously offered their location for the event.

“When the fire in April destroyed much of our building, all of the animals were saved and fostered but they are now in need of permanent homes,” said Shelter Kennel Attendant Chris Morello. “Adopting an animal during Clear the Sheltersis not only a savings on the adoption fees, it provides a loving home to a pet.”

The Animal Shelter’s adoption costs are normally $160 for dogs and $120 for cats and cover the pet’s spaying/neutering, vaccines, micro-chipping and other essential veterinary services.

Montclair’s Clear the Shelters event is made possible with a generous grant from the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®). This year, the ASPCA provided grant funding for 14 organizations participating in Clear the Shelters nationwide, including $7,500 for MTAS.

“Collaboration is critical to saving lives, so we’re proud to join this national team effort to make Clear the Sheltersanother great success,” said ASPCA President and CEO Matt Bershadker. “We’re providing nearly $150,000 in grant funding to help participating shelters find safe and loving homes for as many local animals as possible.”

ADOPTION TRACKER: A real-time pet “Adoption Tracker” – posted on ClearTheShelters.com – will record the total number of pets that are adopted across all participating markets

SOCIAL: Use the hashtag #ClearTheShelters to follow the effort on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Clear the Sheltersthemed Snapchat filters will be activated on July 23. Spanish-language viewers can use the hashtag #DesocuparLosAlbergues

April 21, 2018

Dear editor:

I am writing this letter to express a grave concern I have regarding the influx of absentee ballots. To my understanding, absentee ballots were designed to be used by those who are unable to make it to the polls on Election Day. Such as people in the armed services or those who are away on vacation.

This year’s municipal election will be one for the history books.
