PATERSON, NJ - A fire at 356 Grand St. Saturday morning claimed one life and left another resident of the mixed-occupancy building injured.

According to Paterson Fire Chief Richard Hoedemaker, the fire was reported at 8:01 a.m. Saturday and was quickly brought under control within a half hour. However, one occupant of the three-story structure was killed after a fall from a third-floor window. He fell through a roof on the second level and was found dead on the bathroom floor of a first-story establishment at the address.

Another civilian victim was transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, also resulting from a fall during the blaze.

The blaze, characterized as a "room contents fire," is still under investigation on Saturday afternoon.
