PATERSON, NJ - A search of a vehicle parked for two days that had an occupant inside led to a brief foot chase on Thursday, as well as the discovery of several marijuana plants.

According to Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale, Sergeant J. Santiago and two patrol officers responded to the area of Madison Avenue between Park Avenue and 16th Avenue at approximately 4:10 p.m. and found the car that had been reported.

As Santiago began approaching the vehicle a man in the driver’s seat, later identified as Racheen Harris, 39, exited and immediately began to run north on Madison Avenue.

Harris was caught a short time later and placed under arrest.

A search of the vehicle, a white Hyundai Sonata registered in New Jersey, led to the discovery of the marijuana plants in both the front and rear seats.

The car was towed to police headquarters for further processing and Harris was charged with several crimes related to the possession of, and intent to distribute, the marijuana.
