Illinois Ave. Resident Shot During Robbery Attempt

PATERSON, NJ - A shooting at a residence on Illinois Avenue in the Lakeview section Friday night left a male victim with a leg wound.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., patrol units were dispatched to the residence. On arrival, officers located the victim inside the residence with a single gunshot wound to the leg. It appears that the victim was outside of his residence when he was approached by two males who ordered him into his residence at gunpoint. Once inside the residence, the suspects made a verbal demand for the victim’s property, and during the robbery attempt, several shots were fired, striking the victim one time.

It is not clear at this time if the victim struggled with the suspects prior to him being shot. The motive for the incident appears to be robbery, and the investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Rolondo Polio or Detective Carlos Charon of the Paterson Police Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.

Such as people in the armed services or those who are away on vacation.

This year’s municipal election will be one for the history books.
