PATERSON, NJ - With everything from fireworks to face-painting, Paterson will be holding its Independence Day celebration on Sat., June 30.
The festivities will begin indoors at the Center City Mall between 3-7 pm, while the outdoors events will begin at 6 pm and run until 10 pm. Sponsored by the Downtown Paterson Special Improvement District, the Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza will include clowns, people walking on stilts, food vendors, live music and other attractions. For the event, Main Street will be shut down between Market and Ward streets and Ward will be shut between Hamilton and Cianci streets.
The fireworks display will be held after nightfall. In an effort to foster a family environment, organizers are emphasizing that no alcohol will be served at the event.
The Downtown Improvement district is providing $25,000 to cover the cost of the celebration. The state has imposed restrictions on the use of Paterson's municipal funds for such events.
