Local Girl in Serious Condition Following Gunshot Wound to Head

PATERSON, N.J. – A local girl is in serious condition following a gunshot wound to the head that was reported to police on Saturday night.

Police were dispatched to 35 Rosa Parks Blvd. at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Saturday following a report of gunshots. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim, 12 year old Genesis Rincon of Rosa Parks Boulevard, with a head wound.

She was immediately transported to Saint Joe’s Hospital, however, according to police, Rincon is considered brain dead.

Police said Rincon was walking from a local store to a family gathering with two of her friends when she was struck by the bullet.

Rincon’s family is currently in the process of donating her organs to “help save other lives.”

This was the second gun shot incident reported to Paterson Police on Saturday.

In the early morning hours, around 2:30 a.m., officers were sent to Rosa Parks Boulevard and Putnam Street for a reported shooting.

There was no victim when they arrived to the scene, however shortly after, Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center advised police that a shooting victim had arrived in their Trauma Center.

The first victim is a 26 year old resident who officers was with a group near the intersection when shots were fired, striking the male in the leg.

Following emergency surgery, the victim is listed as being in stable condition.

Paterson Police has dispatched a command center to the corner of Graham Ave. and Warren St.

The department’s Major Crimes Unit and the Cease Fire Unit are currently investigating these incidents. Early clues indicate the two incidents might be related.

Police are offering up to $2,000 to anyone that provides information that leads to the arrest of the perpetrators.  Anyone with information can call 973-321-1120 or 973-321-1342 or 973-523-TIPS and can remain anonymous.
