PATERSON, NJ- An investigation is underway into the shooting death of a food delivery man from Paterson in the early hours of Thursday.

According to a statement from Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald, members of the Paterson responded to the area of 404 East 34th Street at approximately 12:42 a.m. on the report of a motor vehicle accident.

Upon their arrival, the statement read, police located Rui Zhou, 29, Paterson, unresponsive in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, a white Toyota Highlander, having struck a parked vehicle. Zhou suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center at approximately 1:09 a.m.

Zhou’s wife, Xiaomei Liu, was also in the vehicle but did not suffer any injuries.

While no crime scene has been located, a second overnight shooting has also been reported by law enforcement officials who say that a 26-year-old Paterson male sought treatment at St. Joseph’s for non-fatal gunshot wounds.
