PATERSON, NJ - A 30-year-old city man was stabbed multiple times early Thursday morning near the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Summer Street, police said.
The victim told authorities he was walking when a man came up and asked for a light, said Lt. Richard Reyes. The suspect then pulled a knife in the upper right side of his chest, police said.
The victim told authorities he then ran away, west on Hamilton, but his attacker chased him down and stabbed him two more times in the upper right back, police said. So far, there's no indication of what precipitated the stabbing, police said. The victim, who is in stable condition at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, described his attacker as a short Hispanic man wearing an all-grey sweatshirt.
The case is being investigated by Sgt. Bert Ribeiro and Detectives Robert Orozco and Jimmy Maldonado. Police are asking anyone with information to call 973-321-1120.
