Man Wounded During Armed Robbery in 3rd Ward on Monday


PATERSON, NJ – A 21-year-old man from Hawthorne was wounded during an armed robbery in the 3rd Ward early Monday morning, police said.

The victim told police he was parked on E. 28th Street, near 7th Avenue, with a woman when a man approached the driver’s side of the car and demanded their property at gunpoint, according to Sgt. Patrick Murray of the Paterson Police Department’s Cease Fire unit.

After surrendering their belongings to the suspect, the gunman ordered the driver out of the car, police said. At that point, the two men got into a fight during which the suspected fired one shot that wounded the victim in the lower left leg, police said.

The shooter fled on foot. The victim is being treated at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center where he is in stable condition. The woman was not injured.

The investigation is continuing at this time. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Sgt. Tony Urena or Det. Carlos Charon of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
