PATERSON, NJ- “Relationships matter” then candidate Andre Sayegh would say repeatedly on the campaign trail in his effort to gain the support of voters in his bid for mayor. Now the Mayor-Elect following an overwhelming victory on May 8, Sayegh is putting those relationships to work.

On Monday Sayegh had what he called a “very encouraging” meeting with Governor Phil Murphy in Newark, leaving, he said, with a pledge of support for Paterson.

“I asked Governor Murphy to be our partner,” Sayegh told TAPinto Paterson. Among the items they discussed according to the incoming mayor were economic development and public safety.

As Sayegh continues to prepare to take office, including naming Transition Team leadership on Tuesday, he said he remains “eager to partner with Governor Murphy” in efforts to secure additional state funding including from the Attorney General’s Office for anti-gang and anti-gun initiatives as well as for the UEZ.

“The Governor is 100 percent on board to improve Paterson’s future,” Sayegh said.
