PATERSON, N.J. - In an effort to ease the transition into school for tykes, the New Jersey Community Development Corp. (NJCDC) will be giving backpacks and school supplies to more than 100 Paterson Family Center preschool pupils, the NJCDC said today.

The organization said the items will be given to the preschool's new 3-year-old and 4-year-old pupils "to help get the 2016-2017 school year off to a great start." The supplies and backpacks will be doled out Sept. 6 from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Paterson Family Center, 32 Spruce St. in Paterson.

"For many of New Jersey Community Development Corporation's youngest students, the first few days of school can be a difficult transition, especially if they are just starting preschool and this will be their first time away from their parents," said the NJCDC. "NJCDC understands the importance of early childhood education. 90 percent of a child's brain develops before the age of five and the organization wants to make sure that the students attending their preschool start the school year excited to learn and attend school."

The organization said special guests, elected officials and local dignitaries were invited to attend the giveaway.
