Musical Program will honor Rev. Elizabeth Campbell for 16th Pastoral Anniversary at Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church

Musical Program will honor Rev. Elizabeth Campbell for 16th Pastoral Anniversary at Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church -- Sunday October 15 at 3 p.m.

Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church will host a Musical Celebration of Worship and Praise to in honor of the 16th Pastoral Anniversary of church pastor, Rev. Elizabeth Jackson Campbell. The celebration begins at 3 p.m., on Sunday, October 15 at 27 Monroe Place in Montclair.

The celebration will feature tributes to the pastor and musical ministry by soloists and choirs from Rising Mt. Zion and other local churches including Montclair Fellowship Tabernacle, First Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and St. Paul Baptist Church of Montclair; Park Avenue Christian Church of East Orange; and First Shiloh Baptist Church of Orange.

Rev. Campbell was ordained and installed as church pastor in October 2001, under the guidance of the Shiloh Baptist Association’s Ordination Council, headed by then-moderator Rev. James H. Howell. During her leadership, the church has established a number of community-focused ministries including a weekly hot-meal program in collaboration with Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless (MESH), a food pantry, clothing ministry. The church also hosts weekly and monthly spiritually focused classes, fellowship programs, and prayer meetings.

Rev. Campbell served as the first female elected president of the Baptist Minister’s Conference of Newark and Vicinity and also is past president of the Montclair African American Clergy Association. She is a board member of the NAACP and is active in other religious, social, and community organizations.

She has pursued graduate studies at New Brunswick Theological Seminary and completed the Lott Carey Pastoral Excellence Program, which included ministry trips to Guyana, South America; Kingston, Jamaica; and Zimbabwe, West Africa. She has studied at institutions including the Northern Baptist School of Religion in Newark, NJ, and she received a Pastoral Ministry diploma from the Baptist Theological Seminary of Zimbabwe.

Her numerous awards and honors include: Jackie Onassis/Seth Taft Jefferson Award for Public Service in Cleveland, OH; Montclair African American Heritage Parade Grand Marshall (2009) and Religious Ambassador (2013); Montclair Neighborhood Development Corp. Community Service Award (2009); Montclair NAACP Religious Service Award (2003) and Thurgood Marshall Award (2009); Montclair Democratic County Committee Outstanding Service Award (2011); Newark Municipal Council President’s Women’s History Month Making a Difference Award (2017); and NJ Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver’s Shirley Chisholm Award (2017). Rev. Campbell has one son, Edward Kenyatta, with her late husband, John Campbell, and three beloved grandchildren

All are welcome to attend the program. There is no admission fee; freewill offerings will be raised. Following the musical program, a buffet dinner will be served in the church’s Fellowship Hall. For information, call the church at 973-744-3012.
