North Jersey Pride Updates - Tues. Night Vigils and Thurs. Night Dance

Words cannot express our grief over the tragedy at Pulse in Orlando, where 50 people were murdered and another 49 were injured. It was the single worst mass shooting on U.S. soil. As a community, we are are heartbroken, devastated, angry, afraid. But we will not let the act of a madman vanquish our hope. Please come out to one of these candlelight vigils around New Jersey to show our support for the Orlando LGBTQ community, to mourn the victims and to offer messages of hope in this, our darkest hour.

North Jersey Pride is currently arranging for enhanced security at our Pride dance on Thursday, June 16, at Club 4Sixty6 in West Orange, including bag check/weapons search. Please know that we are taking every precaution to ensure the safety and security of our attendees, and are coordinating additional security resources from the West Orange police department as well as the Club 4Sixty6's own security.  Please be prepared for thorough bag checks at the club entrance.

The goal of hate-filled homophobic people like the murderer in Orlando is to force us into hiding, to keep us from dancing, to silence us with shame and fear.

To those hate-mongerers, we say NO.

This Thursday night, we will answer violence with kindness, shame with pride, and hate with love. We will show our solidarity and our refusal to cower in the face of terrorism by coming together as a community, celebrating all we have accomplished and reminding ourselves — and everyone else — that we will not be terrorized into silence and hiding. We will honor the memories of those lost by continuing to live out loud, proud of who we are and of who they were.

The dance was originally a fundraiser for North Jersey Pride, but we will be donating the proceeds of the event to Equality Florida's fund for the families of the victims of Orlando.

We also ask that tickets be purchased in advance, as we will not be set up to sell at the door. Tickets can be purchased online here until 5 p.m. on Thurs., June 16.
