Passaic County Sheriff's Officer Recovers Loaded Weapon, Narcotics, After Short Pursuit

PATERSON, NJ- A Paterson man has been charged with several offenses following a short vehicle and foot pursuit in the early hours of Thursday.

According to a statement by Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik, Passaic County Sheriff’s Officers Patrick Holt attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Clarence Chambers, 27, at approximately 4:00 a.m.

Chambers, the report read, failed to stop as directed on Presidential Blvd leading Holt on a short chase that ended when he crashed into a parked car on Matlock Street. Following the crash Chambers allegedly fled the vehicle on foot before being apprehended by Holt on West Broadway.

In his search of Chambers, Holt recovered a loaded handgun, three “bricks” of heroin, and nearly 40 prescription pills.

Chambers was charged with, among other offenses, Eluding, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. Several motor vehicles summonses were also issued.
