WESTFIELD, NJ — Several local students were among fourteen students to receive scholarships to continue their education in the hospitality industry during a luncheon on Tuesday. 

Hosted by the New Jersey Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, the scholarship luncheon was held at Amuse, a French restaurant on Elm Street in Westfield. 

“The fact that these kids performed exceptionally well and were rewarded with scholarships is inspiring,” said C.J. Reycraft, Jr., owner of Amuse and international award-winning chef.

“Our future in the food industry is going to be very bright in their hands. During the Prostart competition I had the privilege to judge and critique these aspiring young chefs and I can tell you that they are extremely advanced and very dedicated. The food we are going to experience in the near future from them is going to be spectacular. I wish them all well on their journey in life.”

Restauranteurs and NJRA board members presented scholarships to:

  • Erin McCurrie of Kearny High School — Women in Food Service Scholarship;
  • Antonia DiMeglio of Bergen County Academies — Deborah Roy Dowdel Industry Leaders Scholarship;
  • Melanie Pires of Passaic County Technical Institute — Chairman’s Hospitality Management Scholarship;
  • Frankie Concepcion of North 13th Street Technical School — Steve Bidgood Scholarship;
  • Nikola Eliacin of Abraham Clark High School — Garden State Silver Plate Scholarship;  
  • Stephen Schurter — Garden State Silver Plate Scholarship sponsored by Mitchell Kirshbaum Fund;
  • Gianna Aquino of Passaic County Technical Institute — Garden State Silver Plate Scholarship sponsored by Gunter Wilhem Knives; 
  • Rachel Yuroshek of Sussex County Technical School — Garden State Silver Plate Scholarship;
  • Belkis Susana Peguero of North 13th Street Technical School — Garden State Silver Plate Scholarship;
  • Elizabeth Davis of Sussex County Technical School — Garden State Silver Plate Scholarship;
