PATERSON, NJ- The Paterson Board of Education has announced that it will conduct interviews to fill the seat left vacated by former Commissioner Flavio Rivera’s recent election to the Paterson City Council. 

Rivera was one of three people elected to the city council on May 8 and subsequently sworn in on July 1.

In order to qualify a candidate must be at least 18 years old, an American citizen, and a registered voter in the City of Paterson. Candidates must be able to read and write, have been a resident of Paterson for at least one year preceding the selection, and not be prohibited from holding the seat under relevant New Jersey law. 

Candidates will be interviewed at the Board of Education’s meeting on August 20, which begins at 6:30 p.m, and selected by a majority of the current members.

Letters of application and resumes must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, and include a phone number and email address.

The selected candidate will remain in the position until January, 2019, following the November election in which 18 candidates are expected to compete for five seats.
