PATERSON, NJ – Paterson seems to be developing a good reputation in China.

For the second time in four months, a delegation from a province in China visited the Silk City to look into financial opportunities here, according to Mayor Jeffrey Jones.

Six representatives from Zhejiang province met the mayor on March 16 to discuss investment possibilities in Paterson, said Jones. The group heard about Paterson through last fall’s visit to New Jersey by a delegation of officials from Yulin City, the mayor said.

The Yulin group is considering establishing manufacturing businesses in Paterson, while the Zhejiang is looking at other investment possibilities, Jones said.

A third Chinese group may be coming to Paterson later this year to learn about media opportunities in the area, Jones said.

The Yulin visit ended with Jones and the mayor of the Chinese city, Han Yuanli, signing an agreement that designated theirs as “Friendship” cities.

Plans call for a group of Paterson officials to visit Yulin next October.
