PATERSON, NJ - A 20-year-old Paterson man was shot and killed in the early hours of Friday.

According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald members of the Paterson Police Department responded to the area of 53 Sandy Court approximately 12:54 a.m. on a report of shots fired.

Upon their arrival, the report states, officers discovered the victim, identified as Brian Taveras, lying on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound.

Taveras was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center by Paterson Fire Department EMS where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 1:15 a.m.
