Paterson Man Arrested on Attempted Murder Charges After Thursday Shooting

PATERSON, NJ - A Paterson man is being held on attempted murder and weapons possession charges after the shooting of a 19-year-old city resident late Thursday afternoon.

Paterson police have arrested Lyndell Rountree, 32, of 18th Avenue after a 5:30 p.m. shooting at 297 12th Ave. on Thursday. The male victim is being treated at St. Joseph's Medical Center for two gunshot wounds to the left ankle and left upper-leg.

According to Lt. Patrick Murray, Paterson Police Patrol Units were dispatched to the area of 12th Ave. and East 22nd St. on a report of shots fired and a victim down. The victim was in the area of 297 12th Ave. when he was approached by the suspect, with whom he became involved in "a verbal altercation." The suspect took out a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the victim, striking him twice.

Detectives with the Ceasefire Unit identified the alleged shooter in this incident as Rountree, who was arrested at approximately 3 a.m. Friday by members of the Emergency Response Team when he was recognized by officers during a motor vehicle stop. 
 
Rountree is currently being detained. Bail has not yet been set. The investigation is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to contact detectives Rolando Polio or Rick Ferreira at (973) 321-1342.
