PATERSON, NJ - A 28-year-old Paterson man faces up to 25 years in New Jersey State Prison after being charged with several crimes related to the repeated sexual abuse of a child.

According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora, Daniel Walter Jolon Herrera was arrested Thursday, after an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. 

Herrera is charged with one count each of Aggravated Sexual Assault and Sexual Assault, and two counts each of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Hindering Apprehension.

A statement released read that on December 15, 2020, members of the Paterson Police Department responded to a residence in Paterson on a report of a twelve-year-old child being sexually abused. Thereafter, Prosecutor’s Office Detectives interviewed the victim who reported being sexually abused by Herrera on numerous occasions at the child’s homes in Passaic and Paterson between November 2016 and December 2019. Multiple witnesses were also interviewed.
