PATERSON, N.J.-Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale announce the shooting death of Dennis Pride, age 30 years old, of Paterson, New Jersey.

Pride was shot in front of a notorious food establishment that has been known to be the site of drug trafficking arrests, violence, and a nuisance for neighbors. Residents took to social media and called the large amount of crime that happen in and around these sometimes 24 hour eateries a "chicken shop massacre". Local advocate Ernest Rucker said on Facebook "these operations harbor drug dealers, illegal sale of cigarettes, and many other things. People are allowed to gather outside the store and during cold weather are inside of these operations. We have laws on the books about gathering in front of these stores that are not enforced".

A frustrated resident said "the chicken store is a hot spot which means they must close at 12 midnight, however the drive thru can stay open all night, he (the owner) needs to be shut down for quality of life issues".

Another resident chimed in saying "they need to be shut down for quality of life. These things are not allowed in surrounding suburban cities and counties".

Pride succumbed to his injuries after being shot on Monday, January 9th, at approximately 6:32 pm in front of 253 Broadway. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson where he was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.

No arrests have been made at this time. Investigation is on-going. More information to follow as it becomes available. Anyone with information is asked to call the Paterson Police Department Detective Bureau at (973) 321-1120 or the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office “Tips” line at 1-877-370-PCPO or via email tips@passaiccountynj.org.
