Paterson Man Found Guilty of First Degree Murder for 2013 Beating

PATERSON, NJ - A Paterson man has been found guilty of first-degree murder for the beating death of a man in an abandoned Governor Street factory four years ago.

Carl Jones has been charged with first-degree murder, as well as burglary and theft offenses, following the death on Aug. 29, 2013 of Timothy Linnartz.

According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes, Jones and Linnartz both were squatters at an abandoned factory located at 49-55 Governor Street in Paterson. Jones was charged with bludgeoning the victim to death with a hammer behind the factory, then breaking into Linnartz' vehicle, stealing the radio and tools contained inside, and stealing the vehicle itself.

Jones faces a minimum of 30 years in prison when he is sentenced on Aug. 25.
