PATERSON, NJ - A 17-year-old Paterson male is being held in the Essex County Detention Center after being arrested and found to be in possession of a stolen 9 mm handgun Wednesday.

According to Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale, members of the city’s Ceasefire Unit were in the area of North 10th Street and Belmont Avenue at approximately 5:30 p.m. when they observed a large group congregating in front of a residence.

As Detectives Luis Fernandez, Sal Marotta, and Marvin Escobar, along with Passaic County Prosecutor’s Detective Eugene Tolliver, exited their vehicle to disperse the crowd and issue city ordinance violations, one male broke from the group and began to walk off.

The Suspect has been charged with juvenile delinquency alleging weapons offenses included being in possession of the gun that was reported stolen in Colorado.
