PATERSON, NJ - Three Paterson men were arrested Saturday after police were tipped off that they were in possession of handguns while parked in the White Castle parking lot, 220 Broadway, on Saturday.

According to Paterson Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale the incident began at about 7:39 a.m.

Upon responding to the area and observing the gray Acura with tinted windows officers approached, at which point two of the occupants fled on foot setting off brief chases.

Officers Driscoll, Gonzalez, and Rodriguez pursued the rear passenger, Javier Atiliano, 21, before apprehending him a short distance away where he was found to be carrying a loaded handgun that was recovered.  

Meanwhile, Officer Greer chased the front passenger, identified as Niair Lane, 25, and apprehended him on Van Houten Street.

The driver, identified as Winston Saravia-Ariadela, 28, remained on the scene and was taken into custody by Officers Phelan and Collucci. A second weapon, with a high capacity magazine able to hold 30 rounds, was found inside the vehicle.
