Paterson Police Officers Arrest Armed Man Without Incident

PATERSON, NJ - On Tuesday, Paterson police arrested three suspects in connection with a burglary that occurred at 580 Broadway. 

During the investigation by detectives, it was discovered that an iPhone 5s was stolen during the burglary with a case as looking like a cassette.

Detectives requested assistance and responded to the Patterson Billiards located at 183 Market St., where they observed two males later identified as Stephen Fields and Kendel Cooks playing pool. Fields happened to be holding a cell phone with a cassette case that fit the description of the stolen cell phone.

Fields was placed under arrest and during the search, two credit cards that had been reported stolen were discovered on him. While officers were placing Fields under arrest, detectives noticed Cooks then attempting to discard a credit card on the floor. Paterson Police Officers retrieved the credit card which also had been reported stolen. Consequently, Cooks was placed under arrest.

Fields and Cooks were charged with receiving stolen property.

While the suspects were being processed, Paterson police officers responded to 12th Avenue and E. 23rd St. to continue the search for the burglary suspect that the witnesses described.

They observed a male that matched the description that a witness to the burglary provided. As officers approached, the juvenile suspect pulled a handgun out of his right front pocket. The officer quickly grabbed the juvenile’s right arm and removed the handgun from his hands. The juvenile suspect was placed under arrest without incident.

The juvenile suspect was charged with two counts of burglary, robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.
