PATERSON, NJ- A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of four men, and the recovery of a stolen handgun on Tuesday.
According to Police Director Jerry Speziale, members of the Special Investigations Division were conducting a crime suppression operation in the 4th Ward when they observed the driver of a vehicle, later identified as Marvin Pena, 24, Paterson, disregard a stop sign.
After pulling over the vehicle, the report reads, Detective Luis Fernandez observed a firearm sticking out of a pocket attached to the rear of the driver’s seat. All four occupants, including Pena, as well as Moise Hernandez, 25, Paterson; Haneef Jones, 30, Clifton; and Deshawnte Cody, 24, Passaic, were arrested and charged with possession of the stolen weapon, as well as hollow point ammunition.
A subsequent investigation found that the weapon, which will now be analyzed by the New Jersey State Police Ballistics laboratory for connections to other incidents, was reported stolen from North Carolina in 2015.
