Police Release Names of Murder Victims


PATERSON, NJ –Authorities on Monday released the names of the three Patersonians killed in weekend shooting.

But investigators have not yet determined the motives in any of the three killings, according to Lt. Stanley Rodriguez.

Police said the man killed late Friday night at the Arcoiris Sport Bar was Roqual Riveria, who was either 29 or 30 years old.

The victim in the shooting at about 5:25 am Saturday morning outside a car wash on E. 16th Street was Michael Matta, police said. His exact age has not yet been determined, police said.

The youth killed near 12th Avenue at about 3:15 am on Sunday was 17-year-old Jihid Washington. Rodriguez said authorities had no other information on the circumstances of Washington’s death other than he has found shot to death.

I am writing this letter to express a grave concern I have regarding the influx of absentee ballots. To my understanding, absentee ballots were designed to be used by those who are unable to make it to the polls on Election Day. Such as people in the armed services or those who are away on vacation. 

This year’s municipal election will be one for the history books.
