PATERSON, N.J. - A Passaic man sexually assaulted two girls who were between 9 years old and 12 years old, acts that could send him to prison for life, according to authorities.
The man, Marco Antonio Portillo, 37, was charged with one count of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault and two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, said Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes. She said Portillo was arrested Sept. 23.
The arrest was the result of an investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, said the prosecutor.
Aggravated sexual assault carries a term of 25 years to life in in state prison, sexual assault carries a maximum term of 10 years in prison, with 85 percent of the sentence to be served before parole and endangering the welfare of a child carries a maximum term of five years in prison, said Valdes.
State Superior Court Judge Adam Jacobs set bail in Portillo’s case in the amount of $250,000 with a no 10 percent option.
