WOODLAND PARK, NJ - The New Jersey Department of Transportation will hold a public information session to inform the community about plans for the deck/structure replacement of the Squirrelwood Road Bridge  that crosses over Interstate 80.

The meeting will be held at the Woodland Park Borough Hall, 5 Brophy Lane, on Monday, Feb. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to review the concept design, ask questions, and share information. All are encouraged to participate by providing comments at the meeting, by mail, or e-mail.

The Squirrelwood Road Bridge over I-80, suffers from geometric deficiencies, safety issues and is in poor condition. The proposed bridge restructure will address safety and operational issues. Existing bridge abutments will be reconstructed to replace deteriorated concrete. The roadway section will include one 16-foot lane and a five-foot sidewalk in each direction. The bridge will be slightly raised to improve clearance underneath.

Plans will require a traffic detour of about one year. Southbound traffic (from Paterson to Woodland Park) will be maintained. Traffic traveling north on Squirrelwood Road and traffic from I-80 east, Exit 56B is expected to be detoured. The detour route is expected to be via I-80 east to Route 19 and back to I-80 west. The length of this detour route is about three miles. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained during construction.

The project is anticipated to start in the fall of 2022 with a spring of 2024 completion.
