Robbery Victim Shot in Back Friday Night While Trying to Flee


PATERSON, NJ - The victim of an armed robbery was in stable condition late Friday night after being shot in the back attempting to flee from the suspects earlier in the evening on Summer Street.

According to Paterson police, the victim, a 56-year-old male from East Orange, was outside on the street near a vehicle on Summer Street between Lawrence and Montgomery streets at around 7 p.m. when he was approached by two males, one with a handgun. 

The suspects demanded the victim's possessions, and, after he surrendered them, the victim began to run away when he was shot from behind by one of the suspects. 

The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. Detectives were conducting interviews Friday night and canvassing the area of the incident.
