The May 14 rehearsal event will showcase Dance on the Lawn’s 2016 “Emerging Commissioned NJ Choreographer,” Kyle Marshall, who will present a "work-in-progress" followed by a question and answer session and reception. Kyle's full work will be featured at the Sept. 10 Dance on the Lawn Festival, along with choreography by more than ten NY and NJ professional dance companies and dance schools. The Dance on the Lawn May 14 “Open Rehearsal” is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $20.

Dance on the Lawn was established by Montclair resident Charmaine Warren in 2014 to increase New Jersey’s exposure to dance by bringing professional and emerging companies, plus students of dance from around the state, together to perform in a community setting. In addition to offering presentation opportunities, Dance on the Lawn has created an Emerging Commissioned New Jersey Choreographer and mentor program to help support young, emerging artists.

Charmaine Warren is winner of the Dance NJ’s JETÉ AWARD, in honor of founding the Dance on the Lawn Festival. Dance NJ is the service organization committed to advocating the excellence of dance and dance education in the state.

Kyle Marshall currently performs with Doug Elkins, Tiffany Mills Company and “10 Hairy Legs.” He has also worked with Meagan Woods and Company, Lustig Dance Theatre and Freespace Dance. Kyle Marshall Choreography was organized in 2014 to help support his dance-making process. Kyle's dances have been performed at the Dumbo Dance Festival, Movement Research at Judson Church, Dixon Place, Triskelion Arts, Greenspace, Upstart Festival at BAX, STUFFED, AUNTS, Rutgers University and the Dance+ Festival in Portland, OR. He has also received residencies from the Jamaica Performing Arts Center and CoLab Arts. Kyle graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rutgers University with a BFA in Dance, and has been mentored by Paul McRae, Assistant Artistic Director of NJ Ballet. He is excited to be the 2016 Dance on the Lawn emerging commissioned choreographer, and will present a new work at the Dance on the Lawn Festival on September 10, 2016.
