PATERSON, NJ - His Silk City Salsa became the latest dance craze in the metropolitan area. He rang up more receiving yards than any other New York Giant in history. And now he's getting ready to play in the biggest football game of the year.

But before Victor Cruz heads for Indianapolis and the Super Bowl, he plans to stop by School 21 on Saturday for an old-fashioned Paterson pep rally at 4 pm. The rally, sponsored by Paterson Public Schools and the Paterson Recreation Department, will feature giveaways and autographs.

But more than that, the event will provide Patersonians a chance to celebrate one of their own who made good. An undrafted free agent, Cruz emerged as one of the feel-good stories of the NFL's 2011 season. In many ways, his has been a story befitting Paterson, a tale of an underdog who overcame the odds with persistence and toughness.
