PATERSON, NJ- Sparta residents Michelle Abate, Sandra Morrison, Matt Putnam, Dave Miers, Taryn Peppo and Mitch Morrison along with Jesse Jones,Dr. Daniel Morrison, RJ Donnelly, Tom Merrow and Dr. Mary Ann Schran participated in the Paterson Public Schools Career Day on May 29, 2014.

The speakers included two physicians, a hospitality marketing executive, a nurse practitioner, a chef, a finance expert, an engineer, a construction executive, a maintenance business owner, a startup food entrepreneur and an information technology salesperson.

Melissa Wright, a Paterson Public School Guidance Counselor who helped coordinate this program, said, “We are so very thankful to have the volunteer speakers to coordinate such a great day for the 5th - 8th grade students of School No. 18.   All of the speakers engaged our students in real world conversation and activities to help them prepare for their futures. Students commented that they learned about what it takes to be successful and felt inspired to chase their dreams. We are very much appreciative of all of the speakers for taking time out of their busy schedules to come and inspire our future leaders.”

According to Michelle Abate, "I enjoyed speaking at the Career Day. Many of the kids were bright, inquisitive and appreciative of learning about varied fields of employment. It's rewarding to plant a seed and hopefully make a difference in a student's career path.”

Jesse Jones told the students, “'Love yourself and dream big.”

"It was awesome to see such bright kids, who are enthusiastic about their future!” said Tom Merrow.

Taryn Peppo said, "I felt the children were very responsive and started to understand that there are so many possibilities out there for them.”

According to RJ Donnelly, "The students were interested, enthusiastic and eager to learn what various career opportunities are available to them.

"I absolutely loved participating in this program.  There is nothing more important than discussing with these students their dreams and their strategies to achieve their dreams.  I cannot wait until our next Paterson Career Day program!!” said Mitch Morrison.
