St. Joseph's Doctors Sue Horizon

PATERSON, NJ - Doctors at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center have sued Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey today, as part of the fallout of a insurance rate dispute, according to a story on nj.com.

The doctors are claiming in their lawsuit that Horizon was dropping them as part of its strategy in its rate dispute with the Paterson hospital, the story said

St. Joseph’s had demanded a 50-percent increase in insurance payments for its services, the story said. But Horizon refused to approve the increase, prompting St. Joseph’s to say it would sever its contract with the insurance giant by the end of the year, the story said. Horizon also notified doctors at the hospital they would be dropped from its list of in-network providers.
