PATERSON, NJ – One accused killer surrendered to city police early Tuesday morning, while authorities issued an arrest warrant for another.

Charles Conley, 22, of Summer Street, gave himself up at city police headquarters just after midnight, said Lt. Richard Reyes. Conley, who was accompanied by his lawyer, is being charged with the murder of 26-year-old Sterlin Hightower in a shooting that stemmed from an argument over uninvited guests at a house party early Sunday morning, police said.

Meanwhile, Paterson police on Monday issued an arrest warrant on manslaughter charges for 39-year-old Dwayne Myles in connection with the death last week of 49-year-old Joe Gray.

Police say Myles and Gray had a fight near 49 N. Main Street that resulted in Gray’s death. Officers responding to a report of an altercation last Thursday found Gray on the street. Emergency workers attempted to give him CPR, but he was later pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

Myles lives on N. 4th Street and hangs out on the city’s North Sid, Reyes said.

Paterson has had four homicides so far this year and 18 people have been wounded in 16 different shootings.
