TAPinto.net, a network of 57 franchised online hyperlocal news sites, marked its eighth anniversary on Oct. 2 with a record month of traffic in September.

What began in 2008 as an all-online local newspaper in New Providence, founded by Michael and Lauryn Shapiro, is now the dominant player in local news, providing original content on a daily basis in more than 75 towns while other media organizations are decimating their newsrooms and cutting back on local news coverage.

TAPinto.net celebrated its birthday in grand fashion, breaking its all-time traffic record and launching its 57th site, TAPinto New Brunswick. For the month of September, TAPinto was visited by more than 713,339 unique visitors, breaking its former record of 651,001 unique visitors established in July of 2016.

During the last year, TAPinto has had 4,969,050 unique visitors who have read 17,310,789 pages on the site, both records as well.

"The reason we have been so successful is that our sites are locally owned and operated and do their own original local news reporting that our readers have come to respect and love," said TAPinto CEO and Publisher Michael Shapiro. "By providing the backend, training and support to our franchisees, we have been able to create a network of online local news sites that is scalable both on the content side and the advertising side. This enables our sites to not only produce great content but achieve record-breaking traffic and financial sustainability.”

"At a time when pundits are writing the obituary for the news media, we are providing a way forward that respects journalism's rich traditions while creating a sustainable business model from which everyone benefits,” Shapiro continued.  “As we continue to grow, we are committed to improving local journalism. Thank you to our readers and our advertisers for your loyalty and support. We would not be here without you."

Dear Editor:

It is no secret that Paterson is in dire need of revitalizing, restructuring, rebuilding, and, quite frankly, rebranding. As a city, we have struggled to pay our municipal debt, to reduce crime substantially, to create sustainable employment opportunities for our youth and to provide assistance for our city’s most vulnerable residents.

Today, we face an uphill ...

I'm Sorry Mr. Jackson... I Am For Real

July 8, 2018

Hello again, Paterson.

So much has changed since the last time I’ve written… as I’d hoped, Andre Sayegh is our new mayor and it seems an exciting new dawn is upon us. I think when any change comes, especially one as major as this, there is an opportunity for reflection as well as for hope. This election taught me quite a bit, seeing some of the best and worst sides of ...
