PATERSON, NJ - The 4 Miler at Garret Mountain will return to Woodland Park, NJ on September 16, 2017 for the sixth straight year.  Presented by The Sax Charitable Foundation – Sax LLP’s philanthropic arm – the annual run/walk event directly benefits the Child Life Department at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson NJ.  This Department depends solely on private funding to support the children’s quality-of-life programs that help decrease the stress and anxiety caused by illness and hospitalization.

Since its inception in 2012, the 4 Miler has raised nearly $300,000 for the Child Life Department, becoming one of their largest financial supporters, and one of the most successful philanthropic fall events in the tri-state area.  Last year, over 350 runners/walkers participated and $60,000 was raised.

“The 4 Miler has significantly impacted the Child Life Department here at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, and we could not be more grateful,” said Liz Regula, Executive Director of St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center Foundation.  “Our pediatric patients truly benefit from our programs that allow them to enjoy life as kids despite their hospitalization, and it is organizations like Sax that allow us to continue those efforts.”

The 4 Miler is held at the scenic Garret Mountain Reservation, a 568-acre landmark located at 288 Rifle Camp Road in Woodland Park, and features a 4-mile run on a scenic USA Track and Field Certified (USATF) double-loop race course, as well as a 1.5-mile trail walk.  Kids’ dashes, with distances ranging from 25 to 200 yards, will be held for children ages 2-11.  Race-day entertainment includes a DJ, random prize drawings, a variety of children’s activities and post-race refreshments.

“At Sax, we have a sincere commitment and culture of giving back to local organizations where we live and work,” said Robert Paz, Sax LLP Partner, Co-Chairman of the 4 Miler at Garret Mountain, and Member of the St. Joseph’s Healthcare System Board of Trustees.  “We are honored to support St. Joseph’s vigorous efforts to making a difference in these children’s lives where it counts the most, and it will be a priority of ours for years to come.”

“Our firm develops and holds a number of charitable events throughout the year, but our 4 Miler is by far the largest,” said Stuart M. Berger, Sax LLP Partner and Co-Chairman of the 4 Miler at Garret Mountain.  “We value our strong relationship with St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, and are devoted to alleviating some of their financial burden so they can focus their time and energy on their young patients most importantly.”
