PATERSON, NJ - Police are investigating the beating and attempted robbery of two men early Monday morning.

According to Lt. Bert Ribeiro, two men, ages 42 and 31, were walking in the area of 21st Avenue and Lewis Street at around 1:37 a.m. when they were approached by two Hispanic males, who beat them with baseball bats and attempted to steal their belongings.

The robbery attempt was unsuccessful before the two suspects escaped by foot, but the victims needed medical attention and were transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center for what are considered "non-life threatening injuries."
