Two Men Arrested, Two Handguns Recovered During Expansive Operation

PATERSON, NJ- Two Paterson men were arrested, and three handguns were recovered on Saturday in a special operation Police Director Jerry Speziale called “indicative of the dedication by the men and women of the department in making a safer Paterson.”

According to a statement by Speziale, while participating in the extensive operation that led to the issuance of 434 tickets, 17 city ordinance violations, and ten vehicles being towed, Detective Sergeant DeSalvo and Detective Vazquez responded to a call reporting several males wearing black clothing and in possession of handguns in the area of 150 Putnam Steet.

Upon arriving at the scene, Speziale said, the detectives observed six or seven males wearing dark clothing, two of them appearing to be holding handguns in their right hands. The detectives chased the males on foot toward the dead end of Putnam Street, apprehending two and recovering two handguns at the scene.

The two men apprehended, Noah Shaffer, 18, and Zaire Williams, 19 were each charged with possession of a handgun. While the remaining suspects have yet to be located, the Paterson Police Department responded to a resident’s call in the area and recovered a third handgun in the driveway of a property.

“Public safety is the top priority of this Administration,” Mayor Andre Sayegh said following the arrests. “I commend the work of the police department this past weekend as they doubled down on efforts to make our community safer.

I'm Sorry Mr. Jackson... I Am For Real

July 8, 2018

Hello again, Paterson.

So much has changed since the last time I’ve written… as I’d hoped, Andre Sayegh is our new mayor and it seems an exciting new dawn is upon us. I think when any change comes, especially one as major as this, there is an opportunity for reflection as well as for hope. This election taught me quite a bit, seeing some of the best and worst sides of ...
