PATERSON, NJ - Two men driving near the scene of a violent purse-snatching Thursday evening confronted the robber and took back the victim's belongings, police said.

The incident happened at about 7:15 pm near the corner of 16th Avenue and Straight Street, said Lt. Richard Reyes. The 26-year-old victim was walking down the street when a man tried to grab her purse, police said. She tried to resisted and he attacked her, briefly knocking her unconscious, police said.

The suspect fled down 16th Avenue with the purse, but two men whose identities authorities are not releasing went after him in a car and stopped him near Carroll Street, police said. They forced the suspect to give up the purse and he fled, police said.
