PATERSON, NJ - A 32-year-old East Rutherford man was struck and killed by an NJ Transit train heading towards Paterson Station at about 6 am on November 10, officials said.

The Hoboken-bound train hit the man, Thomas Lorenc, just north of the station in area, where there are no road or pedestrian crossings, said NJ Transit spokeswoman Courtney Carroll.

"We're not sure why he was there,'' said Carroll. "It's an elevated portion of the tracks and it's not readily accessible.''

The fatality caused 15 minute delays on NJ Transit's Main Line during most of the morning rush hour, but service had returned to normal by 8:30 am, according to Carroll. The passengers on the train that hit the man experienced about an hour delay. They had to wait for another train to come and pick them up to resume their ride.
