Update: Man Arrested in 2nd Ward Shooting

PATERSON, NJ – City police on Sunday arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with a shooting that happened hours earlier in the 2nd Ward.

The Paterson Cease Fire unit’s Facebook page said the suspect, Robert McClure of Union Avenue, was arrested at a home near the corner of Paterson and Union avenues and charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses. He is being held on $75,000 bail

The shooting happened at about 6 pm on Sunday, according to police. The victim, who was 44, told police he was involved in a fight on Union Boulevard when someone fired a shot that struck him in the arm.

Sgt. Patrick Murray, head of the Cease Fire unit, said the motive for the shooting is unclear at this time, but it is possible that the suspect’s intended target was the second combatant in the physical altercation, and not the victim who was struck.

The investigation is continuing at this time. Authorities are asking that anyone with information is asked to contact the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342 or the confidential TIPS line at 973-523-TIPS.
