UPDATE: Montclair Police Search for Armed Carjacking Assailants

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Sometime around 7pm on Monday, a victim reported an armed carjacking that occurred near the intersection of Glenridge Avenue and Forest Street, according to breaking news reports.

The vehicle taken was reported as a black 2010 Subaru Legacy with New Jersey license plate H56-FGN. It was reported that the suspect was possibly being accompanied by another suspect driving a black Jeep.

The assailant held the driver up at gunpoint, according to reports given to officers.

According to a press release issued by the Montclair Police Department, the victims were a 24-year-old male from Medford and a 24-year-old female from Bloomfield who were seated in the vehicle in the Mid-Town parking Lot, when they observed a black Jeep Liberty pull into a nearby parking space.

Two males then exited the Jeep and approached both the driver and passenger side of the victim’s vehicle brandishing semiautomatic handguns.

Law enforcement officials describe suspect #1 as a black male, approximately 5'10-5'11 in height with long dreadlocks wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and skull cap. This suspect proceeded to knock on the driver side window of the victim’s vehicle with a black semi-automatic handgun.

Suspect #2 is described as a black male approximately 5'06-'5'07 in height wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and skull cap. This suspect approached the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle, brandishing a black semiautomatic handgun. The suspects then ordered the victims out of their vehicle.

The suspects then fled with the victim’s vehicle, along with the black Jeep Liberty, eastbound on Glenridge Avenue.

The black Subaru was later recovered, unoccupied, in the city of Newark. There were no injuries reported in this incident.

UPDATE RELEASED BY MONTCLAIR POLICE:

On 12-26-2016 at approximately 7:13pm, the occupants of a black 2010 Subaru Legacy were carjacked at gunpoint in the area of Forest Street at Glenridge Avenue.
