UPDATE 8:46 p.m. -Law enforcement officials have reversed course from an earlier statement and are now reporting that a 17-year-old Paterson that had initially reported being shot in fact suffered a “graze wound unrelated to the discharge of a firearm."
PATERSON, NJ – A 17-year-old is recovering after being shot early Wednesday morning in Paterson, according to authorities.
Around 3:44 a.m., Paterson police were notified that the teen arrived at St. Joseph’s Medical Center seeking treatment for a non-fatal gunshot wound, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora said in a joint statement.
Additional information, including the location of the shooting incident, was not disclosed late Wednesday afternoon and authorities said they are continuing to investigate.
More details will be released as they become available, the prosecutor’s office said.
