Update: Wounded Man Caught in Crossfire of 4th Ward Shootout

PATERSON, NJ - A 47-year-old city resident was walking on Godwin Avenue early Wednesday morning when he says he found himself in the middle of a gunfight between two men, according to police.

The victim, a resident of 22nd Avenue, was wounded in the left shoulder during the shootout, said Sgt. Patrick Murray, head of the Paterson Police Department's Cease Fire Unit.

The incident happened shortly after midnight on Godwin, between Rosa Parks Boulevard and E.18th Street, near the basketball courts on 12th Avenue, police said.
 
 
Police were learned of the shooting when they were called to a taxi company at 445 Broadway at 12:23 am on a report that someone was wounded. When they arrived at the cab company, they found the victim clutching the left side of his chest, according to police.
 
The victim wsa taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, where he is in stable condition, Murray said.
