PATERSON, NJ - A 34-year-old Paterson man is dead after being shot Sunday, according to law enforcement officials. The shooting continues a streak of violence which has seen at least 15 gunshot victims in a week.
Earlier on Sunday officials announced that an 18-year-old Paterson man arrived at Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment of a non-fatal gunshot wound in the area of Summer Street.
The latest incident, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora, brought police officers to the area of 331 15th Avenue at approximately 9:31 p.m. on a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, the officers discovered Wahneem Combs, 34, inside the residence with an apparent gunshot wound. Combs had succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Combs’ death is the second in four days and follows the fatal shooting of David Torres, 20, outside of Saint Joseph’s on Sunday.
On Sunday Mayor Andre Sayegh announced the Paterson Police Department had “ratcheted up” efforts to end the violence removing five guns off the streets and arresting nine suspects in four incidents since Thursday.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office asks anyone with additional information about these incidents to contact them on their tips line at 1-877-370-PCPO or firstname.lastname@example.org or to contact the Paterson Police Detective Bureau at 973-321-1120.
