YMCA Murder Suspect Turns Himself in


PATERSON, NJ – Shamar Myles surrendered to city police Friday morning and was arrested on murder and weapons charges in connection with Wednesday's fatal stabbing at the YMCA.

Myles, a 23-year-old resident of Ryle Avenue, is accused of killing George Brinkly by stabbing in the chest at about 12:30 am on Wednesday in the midst of an argument, police said. The two men have had previous "heated discussions" over a woman, said Capt. Heriberto Rodriguez.

Brinkly, who was 57, lived at the YMCA.

The killing was Paterson's 18th homicide of the year, including two deaths involving police officers and another that was deemed self-defense, police said.
