Thanks to the generosity of Assemblynan Benjie Wimberly, I had the distinct and high honor of attending Governor Phil Murphy's State of the State Address on Tuesday.

Attending events such as this becomes a who's who in Jersey politics. Everybody from former governors to the Chief Justice of the NJ Supreme Court were in attendance. Needless to say I star struck.

Wednesday marked the one year anniversary of Gov. Murphy taking the oath of office. I remain optimistic that this progressive governor, with assistance from the legislature, will pass an increase in the minimum wage and legalize marijuana. During his speech, Murphy talked about the fairness in companies receiving tax incentives that will benefit the state and not the wealthy. That is a promising start.

The governor, in my opinion, should receive high marks for offering tuition free community college, keeping a laser light focus on repairing NJ Transit, increasing school aid in districts such as Paterson and advancing a litany of other progressive initiatives.

Here's hoping that Governor Murphy will have a successful tenure as Governor of our great state.
